Cryotherapy for Anxiety and Exam Stress

In this case study, Ollie outlines how poor sleeping patterns had left him anxious and demotivated - falling behind with his A-levels and struggling to alleviate the symptoms. After a course of WBC, he found his mojo again.

I also found that it helped me feel less anxious and also motivated me to get back into the exercise that I enjoy such as running

Cryotherapy has been studied for its impacts on mental health, anxiety and other related issues like chronic insomnia. The overall impact of WBC on the body produces a multitude of effects which cumulatively help improve overall health

Cryotherapy for Exam Stress

In this case study, Ollie outlines how poor sleeping patterns had left him anxious and demotivated – falling behind with his A-levels and struggling to alleviate the symptoms. After a course of WBC, he found his mojo again.

In Ollie’s own words:

Can you please describe the symptoms or condition you were feeling that led you to try Whole Body Cryotherapy?  How were they impacting you?

I’ve recently turned 18 and am at sixth form, which means my social life has been busy to say the least.

I’d found that a period of excessive partying had lead me to completely fall out of a usual sleeping pattern, making me become almost nocturnal.

This then lead to a spiral of further events such as not being able to get up to go to school, therefore falling completely behind in my upcoming A-levels and lacking the ability to motivate myself.

I found myself anxious on a day to day basis knowing that I had wasted another day laying in bed, but couldn’t find it in myself to snap myself out of it.

Why did you think Cryotherapy could help?

My sister has been attending physio and other treatments at the wellness hub for some time, she had opened up to Emma about her concerns for my mental health and overall wellbeing.

Emma believed that cryotherapy could help with the symptoms I was facing so asked my sister to bring me in for a free session to see how it could help.

How did you find the initial experience? Were there any changes to your symptoms?

The effects were pretty much immediate. I felt exhilarated and energised afterwards, I then slept really well that night.

I followed up with a further 5 sessions and this completely helped get my circadian rhythm back to falling asleep and getting up for school.

I then went back to school full time, which I hadn’t done in the winter term, with 100% attendance for the first half of the spring term and feel more motivated to sit my A-levels. I also found that it helped me feel less anxious and also motivated me to get back into the exercise that I enjoy such as running.

Have you developed a routine which works for you?

I think doing 2 cryotherapies a week would be beneficial to keep this pattern going for me, and once I feel completely stable and have developed new routines and habits, go down to 1 a week, then 1 biweekly.

What are the outcomes you’ve seen as part of your routine? Not just for your initial goals but any other effects?

Better sleep, clearer mind, better ability to follow a routine and motivate myself to complete tasks I couldn’t possibly do before.

I have found this harder to continue since stopping the cryotherapy case study and genuinely believe that being able to complete the last stage of my A levels is down to Emma and her kindness for letting me be part of this case study.
